New TV Series On Indigenous Resistance Opens With Standing Rock – Anti Media News

A new television series produced in partnership between VICE Canada and APTN (Aboriginal People’s Television Network) debuts on Friday. The first episode of RISE on VICELAND focuses on the fight against the Dakota Access Pipeline. Crews traveled to North Dakota last summer to visit the home of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe and the #NoDAPL encampment.”People are waking up,” a participant says in the trailer for the series. “People are saying no more.”Another episode focuses on the battle to protect Oak Flat, a sacred Apache site in Arizona, from a massive mine that was pushed through by Republicans in Congress. Filmmakers also traced the evolution of the indigenous activist movement.”RISE is groundbreaking through its voicing of important issues around land, decolonization, and political governance told through an indigenous point of view by showcasing the people who are leading this change globally,” producer Michelle Latimer, who is Métis and Algonquin, said in a press release.VICELAND is carried on cable providers in the United States and Canada.
