Dr. Dre Donates $10,000,000 to Build Performing Arts Center for Compton, CA High School – Anti Media News

Compton, CA native and Hip-hop icon Dr. Dre has agreed to donate $10 million to help develop a performing arts center for a Compton high school, announced the Compton Unified School District Thursday.

The center—which will be part of the new Compton High School—will include several creative resources, as well as a 1,200-seat theater. The project is expected to break ground in 2020, according to Variety.

“My goal is to provide kids with the kind of tools and learning they deserve,” Dre said in a statement. “The performing arts center will be a place for young people to be creative in a way that will help further their education and positively define their future.”

The new Compton High is expected to serve about 2,500 students once it is built. And Dre is not just handing over the cash and moving on to the next one; the mogul is expected to be involved in raising additional funds to finish the project.

This project marks Dre’s second major philanthropic effort in Southern California education, Variety reported. In 2013, he and business partner Jimmy Iovine collectively gave $70 million to the University of Southern California to create the USC Jimmy Iovine and Andre Young Academy for Arts, Technology and the Business of Innovation.

Micah Ali, vice chairman of the Compton Unified School District’s Board of Education said, “The Compton Unified School District is building what will be the most modern high school complex ever provided to public school students. This extraordinarily ambitious project will be a beacon for transformational change in Compton—giving our community an unparalleled access to opportunity and achievement. Dr. Dre has stepped up and partnered with the school district to make this vision a reality. A true act of giving back to the community in a way that will directly impact the ever-resilient efforts of our students to rise up and succeed. A true act of leading the way and standing as an example to others of how never to forget where you came from.”

Well done Dr. Dre.  This is a great example for all of us to give what we can to help the positive development of children and any who are in need.
