Family Values: A “pro-life” (pro-fetus, pro-forced-birth) conservative congressman is caught trying to force his mistress to have an abortion.
In a deplorable display of boorish behavior a conservative Republican congressman beloved by the anti-abortion movement sent text messages to his mistress pressuring her to get an abortion.
According to multiple reports, Rep. Tim Murphy of Pennsylvania acknowledged last month he had an affair with Shannon Edwards, a forensic psychologist in Pittsburgh. Now new revelations concerning explosive text messages exchanged between Murphy and Edwards last January show the two discussing a pregnancy scare, and a possible abortion.
In one text Edwards expresses disgust with the supposedly anti-abortion Rep Murphy’s hypocrisy after he was pressuring her to get an abortion, declaring:
And you have zero issue posting your pro-life stance all over the place when you had no issue asking me to abort our unborn child just last week when we thought that was one of the options.
Edwards was right to be appalled by Rep. Murphy’s hypocrisy. Reporting on the story, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette notes:
The congressman has been lauded by the Family Research Council, for his stance on abortion, as well as for family values, generally. He also has been endorsed by LifePAC, which opposes abortion rights, and is a member of the House Pro-Life Caucus, an affiliation that is often cited by his office.
The good news: Rep. Murphy might be forced to resign as a result of the scandal. Politico reports:
Embattled Rep. Tim Murphy is weighing his political future as pressure mounts on the Pennsylvania Republican to resign.
Murphy met privately with Speaker Paul Ryan Wednesday, according to GOP sources. Numerous top Republicans want Murphy to step down amid a report that the married, anti-abortion congressman suggested his mistress terminate an apparent pregnancy.
Bottom line: Congressman Tim Murphy, a Republican with a strong anti-abortion voting history, asked his mistress to undergo an abortion.
Remember kids, nothing says “Republican family values” like marital infidelity, and trying to force your mistress into having an abortion.
