Fort Pierce Cop To Be Reinstated After Fatal Shooting Of Unarmed Man

“The arbitrator found in essence that while the act was a violation, it did not rise to the level of a terminable offense. the arbitrator ordered that Mr. MacNaught be reinstated with back pay and benefits to begin no later than Jun 1, 2018.”

Fort Pierce Police Chief Diane Hobley-Burney told WPBF, “I have to respect what the arbitrator recommended and we will fulfill his recommendation.”

The chief also said she wants the community to know they’ve made several changes in the department since the killing.

Officers had to participate in de-escalation training, traffic stop training and now have body cameras.

“The tragic situation on April 23rd is embedded, it is a part of this department and the department’s history. We’ve learned and we’ve trained our officers in response to this situation to do everything in our power to assure a tragic situation like that would never occur again,” said Mobley-Burney.
