11-Year-Old Jacksonville Student Handcuffed For Bouncing A Basketball

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said their internal affairs department is reviewing the incident after receiving Borisade’s complaint.

Borisade’s complaint said the officer acted inappropriately.

“The officer who handcuffed my son looked at me and said, ‘He was being disrespectful,’” Borisade said. “I said, ‘Well, why didn’t you come and tell me? I’m his mom.’”

Borisade said she now has a more negative opinion of police officers after her son was mistreated.  “It’s ruined (my image of police) as well. I’m not going to lie and put on a show for the news.”

She said her son is now afraid of police, which is the opposite outcome of the stated mission of the JaxPAL league.

According to the league, it wants to create “positive relationships between law enforcement officers and the youth of our community through educational, athletic and leadership programs.”
